Distribution of Rhodiola rosea in Slovakia

Ján Kliment

Acta Carp. Occ. 10: 8-26, 2019 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2019.002

This contribution brings extensive information on distribution of the arctic-alpine species Rhodiola rosea in Slovakia. Published and few unpublished data on distribution of rose root, as well as herbarium specimens were examined during the research. Rhodiola rosea is quite common in the Slovak part of the Western Carpathians, especially in the Západné Tatry Mts, Vysoké Tatry Mts, Belianske Tatry Mts, Nízke Tatry Mts and Krivánska Fatra Mts. Less frequently, it occurs in the Veľká Fatra Mts, as well, and few isolated localities are known from the Západné Beskydy Mts (Mt. Babia hora). There is also a single published evidence on the occurrence of Rhodiola...

Pavol Eliáš st.

Acta Carp. Occ. 10: 32-46, 2019 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2019.004

Castles are important phenomena in rural landscape of Slovakia. They form specific anthropogenic habitats with higher local biodiversity. The study deals with diversity of vascular plant species of three medieval castles/castle ruins in North-Eastern Slovakia (Ľubovňa, Plaveč and Zborov), based on the author's own field research and published data. The castle ruins, differing in size (area) and stage of destruction, were reconstructed in the past (Ľubovňa) or are under reconstruction in last few years (Plaveč and Zborov). Basic characteristics (data) of the castles are given in Table 1. All plant taxa recorded in two different study periods (about...

Jan Dolanský, Dušan Trávníček, Petr Hrabina

Acta Carp. Occ. 10: 47-53, 2019 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2019.005

The spider fauna was followed in the riparian habitats (predominantly gravel banks) of the Bečva river in the vicinity of the village of the Skalička where the construction of a dam is planned. The species Pardosa agricola and Heliophanus patagiatus belong to the most precious findings; the investigated area is the second locality in the whole Czech Republic, where the species were recorded. Another rare species such as Arctosa cinerea, Arctosa maculata, Clubiona similis, Pardosa morosa and Peponocranium praeceps were identified in the collected material. The discovered species spectrum on this locality is very similar to the spider community of the...

Acta Carp. Occ. 10: 54-57, 2019 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2019.006

This paper presents current knowledge on distribution of keratin beetle Trox (Niditrox) perrisii Fairmaire, 1868 in the Czech Republic. The species is recorded from eleven new localities in Moravia, and from the territories of Chřiby Mts., Javorníky Mts., and Northern Moravia region it is reported for the first time. This nidicolous beetle is rarely collected and seems to be associated with preserved natural forest habitats. New records and literature data are shown on the map.

Nové nálezy kriticky ohroženého kozlíčka mřížkovaného Acanthocinus reticulatus (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) na Moravě (Česká republika) a poznámky k ochraně druhu

Acta Carp. Occ. 10: 58-63, 2019 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2019.007

New faunistic records of critically endangered longhorn beetle Acanthocinus reticulatus (Razoumowsky, 1789) in Central and Northern Moravia and notes on its conservation are presented. The species was recorded for the first time in the Nízký Jeseník Mts., Hostýnské vrchy Mts., Oderské vrchy Mts. and Vsetínské vrchy Mts. Current adverse situation for the species (i.e. low abundance and nearly absence of younger host trees) in forests of the Czech Republic is pointed. Hence, conservation measures for this critically endangered saproxylic species are proposed: i) do not remove old silver firs (particularly declining and dying) from stands, ii) increase...

První nálezy pakudlanky jižní (Mantispa styriaca) ve Zlínském kraji

The first records of the Styrian praying lacewing (Mantispa styriaca) in the Zlín region

Magdaléna Šnajdarová, Pavel Šnajdara

Acta Carp. Occ. 10: 64-67, 2019 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2019.008

The Styrian praying lacewing (Mantispa styriaca) was reported only from the warmest regions of the Czech Republic in the past. In 2005, the occurrence of this species was first recorded in the Zlín region. Further observations were reported from this area in 2018 and 2019. These data prove the spreading of the taxon north of the original extension limit similarly as it was in the case of the European mantis (Mantis religiosa) or the Wasp spider (Argiope bruennichi) and other insect species in the previous years.

Acta Carp. Occ. 10: 68-73, 2019 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2019.009

We document the return French Red Underwing (Catocala elocata) and Rosy Underwing (C. electa) to Moravian Wallachia region. Both species were again documented in the region after more than forty years until 2017. French Red Underwing (C. elocata) was recorded at four localities in Zlín and Valašské Meziříčí environs, Rosy Underwing (C. electa) at seven sites in surroundings of Zlín and Vsetín. Both species have disappeared from most area of the Czech Republic from the 1970s to the first decade of the 21st century and started to expand, especially in Moravia and Silesia in the lowlands of the lower altitudes, after 2015.

Novodobá expanze soumračníka podobného (Pyrgus armoricanus [Oberthür, 1910]) v České republice (Hesperiidae, Lepidoptera)

Jiří Beneš, Jan Růžička, Lukáš Spitzer

Acta Carp. Occ. 10: 74-85, 2019 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2019.010

This paper present new findings on the distribution changes of the Oberthür's Grizzled Skipper (Pyrgus armoricanus) in the Czech Republic, documenting its re-expansion, including expansion to historically unoccupied regions, most likely explained by warmer climate of the past few years. It also documents the range of host plants used for larval development (based on oviposition records from field), and current habitat and management preferences. It is based on revision of all available archival records (museums, literature), and butterfly recording data, which substantially increased in recent years.Until mid-20th century, the species was relatively...

Acta Carp. Occ. 10: 86-90, 2019 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2019.011

European wildcat (Felis silvestris) has been a missing species in the Czech Republic and Western Slovakia since the 1960s.Development of camera trapping techniques in wildlife research has resulted since 2012 in the new records of European wildcat in the West Carpathians in the Czech-Slovak borderland. Here we present the data collected during the intensive monitoring of large carnivores in the West Carpathians during the 3-year period (31/8/2016 - 1/9/2019). We recorded 86 unique visits of wildcat of which the most records came from Bílé Karpaty Mts. and Javorníky Mts. in Slovakia, where 9-10 individuals were identified and the reproduction was confirmed...
