Moths in selected former military areas in the Czech Republic

Former military areas represent valuable refuges of biodiversity. Due to the activities of army units a fine-scale mosaic of various habitats has been created, forming suitable conditions for many endangered taxa. In this research we have studied the diversity of nocturnal moths in the twelve abandoned military areas in Bohemia and Moravia. Totally, the study confirmed occurrence of 558 moth species, of which 51 are classified as species of conservation interest (50 species listed in the current Red List of Invertebrates of the Czech Republic).
