Record of the longhorn beetle Xylotrechus pantherinus (Savenius, 1825) at the former military training area Krnov-Chomýž (northern Moravia, Czech Republic)Articles

Lukáš Spitzer, Josef Kašák

Acta Carp. Occ. 16: 172-177, 2025 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2025.009

Former military areas and training grounds host valuable fauna that would otherwise face extinction in the current central european landscape. Over the past decades, these habitats have suffered from overgrowth, but many are now managed through mowing or extensive grazing by large herbivores. This report provides information on an interesting record of the one adult specimen of endangered longhorned beetle Xylotrechus pantherinus (Savenius, 1825) from the former military area Krnov-Chomýž (Krnov District, Czech Republic) in 2023, which is now managed mainly through by grazing of aurochs and semi-wild Exmoor ponies.

The species was recorded at six localities within the faunistic grid system (6674: Halenkov-Lušová; 6675: Halenkov-Břežitá; 6673: Podkopná Lhota-Humenec, Ratiboř and Vsetín-Semetín; 6474: Krhová) between 2014 and 2025. The records are based on observations of adults or larvae. Findings come partly from recently abandoned or extensively grazed pastures or their surroundings, such as the edges of forest clearings. The low number of records, despite relatively intensive...

The orb-weaver Gibbaranea ullrichi (Araneae: Araneidae) and other new significant records from the Váté Písky National Natural MonumentArticles

Kryštof Rückl, Václav Kroc

Acta Carp. Occ. 16: 162-166, 2025 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2025.007

At the Váté Písky National Nature Monument, a population of the orb-weaver Gibbaranea ullrichi was recorded. This rare species can be overlooked due to living low above ground among sparse vegetation. The nocturnal collection using a torch seems to be suitable for recording many individuals of G. ullrichi. Trichoncoides piscator, Taranucnus setosus, Araniella inconspicua and Diaea livens are other rare species found for the first time at this locality.

Acta Carp. Occ. 16: 1-11, 2025 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2025.001

Populations of forest rodents change their structure and density depending on environmental conditions, causing variations in their fossorial activity and burrow distribution. Research conducted over two years focused on forest rodent species, Apodemus flavicollis and Myodes glareolus. A correlation was recorded between rodent clustering and the aggregation of burrow openings in systems located in plots with a significantly higher representation of European beech (Fagus sylvatica). Plots with scattered oaks (Quercus spp.) were intensively used by forest rodents. This tree species provides numerous cavities widely used...

Acta Carp. Occ. 15: 8-17, 2024 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2024.002

The distribution of the rare assassin bug (Peirates hybridus) in the Czech Republic underwent significant changes during the 20th and 21st centuries. The species disappeared from the territory in the mid-20th century, but has recently recolonised it and rapidly spread beyond its original range. The species was rediscovered in Moravia after 50 years (in 1998), and after more than 100 years also in Bohemia (in 2021). At the start of the 21st century, it rapidly spread through the valleys of large rivers and into previously inhabited areas. The expansion of the species is likely due to a combination of factors related to climate change. Historically,...
