Window gnats (Diptera: Anisopodidae) in the Czech Republic: a review of present knowledge

The authors summarize faunistic information from recently published works and unpublished data on the distribution of genus Sylvicola (Diptera: Anisopodidae) in the Czech Republic. Altogether six species of the genus Sylvicola are known from the Czech Republic: two species of the subgenus Anisopus (S. fuscatus and S. punctatus) and four species of the subgenus Sylvicola (S. cinctus, S. fenestralis, S. limpidus, and S. zetterstedti). The three species, namely S. cinctus, S. fuscatus, and S. punctatus, are common on the territory of the Czech Republic, other three species are much rarer. Sylvicola fenestralis is known from 16 mapping grids over the whole territory of the Czech Republic. The montane species S. limpidus is known from three mapping grids of the high situated parts of the Šumava Mts. (= Bohemian Forest), the Hrubý Jeseník Mts., and the Krkonoše Mts. (= Giant Mts.). Sylvicola zetterstedti is recorded from nine mapping grids of four regions of Bohemia only: the vicinity of Mariánské Lázně town (= Marienbad), western Šumava Mts., and the vicinities of Tábor and Liberec towns.
