The moss Plagiopus oederianus still grows in the Štramberk Karst

In 2013, the moss Plagiopus oederianus was recorded close to the Šipka cave on Kotouč hill, near the town of Štramberk in northern Moravia (Czech Republic). On Kotouč hill, the species was first noted by V. Spitzer in 1889, the latest record dates back to 1953 when it was collected by J. Jedlička. In 2014, the P. oederianus population was studied in detail. It grows on a limestone rock, sporophytes were developed and the population consists of 78 patches with total area of 1.185 m2. P. oederianus occurs on the site together with Brachythecium glareosum, B. tommasinii, Ctenidium molluscum, Didymodon fallax, Encalypta streptocarpa, Fissidens dubius, Leiocolea bantriensis, Mnium stellare, Exsertotheca crispa, Pedinophyllum interruptum, Plagiochila porelloides, Plasteurhynchium striatulum, Reboulia hemisphaerica, Schistidium crassipilum, Thamnobryum alopecurum and Tortella tortuosa.
