Syntaxonomical classification of 78 unpublished phytosociological relevés of European hazel shrubs from the north-western part of Slovakia (Biele Karpaty Mts, Strážovské vrchy Mts, Súľovské vrchy Mts, Javorníky Mts, Turzovská vrchovina Mts, Lúčanská Fatra Mts, Krivánska Fatra Mts, Veľká Fatra Mts, Kremnické vrchy Mts, and Oravská vrchovina Mts) is presented. Nearly all relevés were assigned to the association Prenantho purpurei-Coryletum based on the numerical classification and comparison with the original diagnoses of the relevant communities. Two regional variants were distinguished (variant with Ligustrum vulgare and variant with Salvia glutinosa) with regard to their specific habitat conditions and different species composition. Only two relevés from the foothill of the Biele Karpaty Mts were assigned to the association Pruno-Coryletum.
