Record of the longhorn beetle Xylotrechus pantherinus (Savenius, 1825) at the former military training area Krnov-Chomýž (northern Moravia, Czech Republic)

Lukáš Spitzer, Josef Kašák

Acta Carp. Occ. 16: 172-177, 2025 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2025.009

Former military areas and training grounds host valuable fauna that would otherwise face extinction in the current central european landscape. Over the past decades, these habitats have suffered from overgrowth, but many are now managed through mowing or extensive grazing by large herbivores. This report provides information on an interesting record of the one adult specimen of endangered longhorned beetle Xylotrechus pantherinus (Savenius, 1825) from the former military area Krnov-Chomýž (Krnov District, Czech Republic) in 2023, which is now managed mainly through by grazing of aurochs and semi-wild Exmoor ponies.

New records of the Brown Tiger Moth (Arctia aulica) (Lepidoptera: Erebidae) in the Moravian Wallachia Region (Czech Republic)

Lukáš Spitzer

Acta Carp. Occ. 16: 167-171, 2025 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2025.008

This paper summarizes new records of endangered species Arctia aulica (the Brown Tiger Moth) (Erebidae: Arctiinae) from the Moravian Wallachia Region, central Moravia (Czech Republic). The species was recorded at six localities within the faunistic grid system (6674: Halenkov-Lušová; 6675: Halenkov-Břežitá; 6673: Podkopná Lhota-Humenec, Ratiboř and Vsetín-Semetín; 6474: Krhová) between 2014 and 2025. The records are based on observations of adults or larvae. Findings come partly from recently abandoned or extensively grazed pastures or their surroundings, such as the edges of forest clearings. The low number of records, despite relatively intensive...

The orb-weaver Gibbaranea ullrichi (Araneae: Araneidae) and other new significant records from the Váté Písky National Natural Monument

Kryštof Rückl, Václav Kroc

Acta Carp. Occ. 16: 162-166, 2025 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2025.007

At the Váté Písky National Nature Monument, a population of the orb-weaver Gibbaranea ullrichi was recorded. This rare species can be overlooked due to living low above ground among sparse vegetation. The nocturnal collection using a torch seems to be suitable for recording many individuals of G. ullrichi. Trichoncoides piscator, Taranucnus setosus, Araniella inconspicua and Diaea livens are other rare species found for the first time at this locality.

Water beetles (Coleoptera: Dryopidae, Dytiscidae, Gyrinidae, Haliplidae, Helophoridae, Heteroceridae, Hydraenidae, Hydrochidae, Hydrophilidae, Limnichidae, Noteridae, Scirtidae, Spercheidae) of the Kosteliska Bird Park

The Kosteliska Bird Park is a private protected area covering of 112 hectares, established primarily for the purpose of bird protection. It is located in the floodplain of the Kyjovka River north of the Jarohněvický rybník pond near the town of Dubňany (Hodonín district, south-eastern Moravia). A mosaic of water bodies, reed beds, meadows, forests and sandbanks of a steppe nature occures here. Such a diverse environment is of great value from a conservation point of view, as it offers a wide array of habitats and supports exceptionally rich biodiversity. An inventory survey focused on water beetles was conducted between 2020 and 2024....

Habitats, conservation and distribution of the tumbling flower beetle Mordellochroa milleri (Coleoptera: Mordellidae) in the Czech Republic

Ondřej Konvička

Acta Carp. Occ. 16: 126-134, 2025 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2025.005

This article presents current knowledge on the distribution of the tumbling flower beetle Mordellochroa milleri (Emery, 1876) in the Czech Republic. The species is known from a few localities in the southern, southeastern, and eastern parts of the Moravia region only. New records and literature data are shown in the distribution map. Currently, the occurrence is known from 11 faunistic map fields. The habitat characteristics of the newly reported localities of occurrence are also presented. The saproxylic tumbling flower beetle M. milleri is rarely collected in the area of focus and seems to be associated with preserved,...

New data of the occurrence of Agromyzidae (Diptera) in the White Carpathians PLA

Miloš Černý

Acta Carp. Occ. 16: 26-125, 2025 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2025.004

Further new faunal records of leafmining flies of the family Agromyzidae (Diptera) from twenty-four localities in the White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area (SE Moravia, Czech Republic) are presented. A total of 352 species from 16 genera were found; of this number, 21 species are new to the fauna of the Czech Republic: Agromyza bohemani Spencer, 1976, Amauromyza (Amauromyza) carlinae (Hering, 1944), Am. (Am.) chamaebalani (Hering, 1960), Aulagromyza fulvicornis (Hendel, 1935), Cerodontha (Poemyza) kerteszi (Hendel, 1931), Chromatomyia centaurii Spencer, 1990,...

New locality of Dactylorhiza incarnata subsp. haematodes and additional notes to its recent distribution in Slovakia

Daniel Dítě, František Bednár

Acta Carp. Occ. 16: 18-25, 2025 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2025.003

We report a new record of Dactylorhiza incarnata subsp. haematodes in the Šípska Fatra mountains located in the western part of the Liptov region. This previously unknown population, consisting of nearly 100 fertile individuals, represents the largest stand of the subspecies in Slovakia. It occurs in the habitat of Moist mesotrophic to eutrophic hay meadow (LKP06) within the vegetation of the Junco inflexi-Menthetum longifoliae association (alliance Calthion palustris). Moreover, this population is one of the highest-altitude occurrences of the species in the Western Carpathians, where it is rarely found in this type...

Pavel Marhoul, Robert Vlk, Tomáš Kadlec

Acta Carp. Occ. 16: 12-17, 2025 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2025.002

The robber fly Tolmerus cowini (Hobby, 1946) is reported for the first time from the Czech Republic. Distribution, habitat preferences and distinguishing from the closely related Tolmerus cingulatus (Fabricius, 1781) are briefly discussed.

Burrow Distribution and Fossorial Activity of Forest Rodents in a Quercetalia pubescentis Forest Stand in Malá Fatra Mts.

Andrej Mateček, Ladislav Hlôška, Ivan Baláž

Acta Carp. Occ. 16: 1-11, 2025 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2025.001

Populations of forest rodents change their structure and density depending on environmental conditions, causing variations in their fossorial activity and burrow distribution. Research conducted over two years focused on forest rodent species, Apodemus flavicollis and Myodes glareolus. A correlation was recorded between rodent clustering and the aggregation of burrow openings in systems located in plots with a significantly higher representation of European beech (Fagus sylvatica). Plots with scattered oaks (Quercus spp.) were intensively used by forest rodents. This tree species provides numerous cavities widely used...
