(eastern Moravia, Czech Republic)

Pavel Dřevojan

Acta Carp. Occ. 15: 31-35, 2024 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2024.009

The article discusses the discovery of the critically endangered species Pseudognaphalium luteoalbum at a new locality in the Hostýnské vrchy Mts, where it was last recorded more than 100 years ago. Its population is very numerous, consisting of several hundred individuals. The species occurs in a sparse spruce plantation. The vegetation where Pseudognaphalium luteoalbum grows was documented through a phytocoenological relevé, and its species composition is commented on. Activities related to timber harvesting appear to be an important factor for the species survival in forested areas. For Pseudognaphalium luteoalbum as a winter-annual...

The Ladybird Tetrabrachys connatus (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) in the Czech Republic

Filip Trnka

Acta Carp. Occ. 15: 25-30, 2024 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2024.008

Records of the ladybird Tetrabrachys connatus (Panzer, 1796) from the Czech Republic are summarised based on the study of private collections and published data. It is a rare species in Central Europe. In the Czech Republic it is recently known so far only from a few localities in the South Moravian Region, concentrated in the Pálava Protected Landscape Area. The paper also summarises literature and unpublished data from more than 20 new localities in the Czech Republic from 16 faunistic squares, including the northern-most record from Central Moravia. Most specimens were collected by sifting or pitfall traps in dry grasslands on calcareous or loess soils.

Acta Carp. Occ. 15: 8-17, 2024 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2024.002

The distribution of the rare assassin bug (Peirates hybridus) in the Czech Republic underwent significant changes during the 20th and 21st centuries. The species disappeared from the territory in the mid-20th century, but has recently recolonised it and rapidly spread beyond its original range. The species was rediscovered in Moravia after 50 years (in 1998), and after more than 100 years also in Bohemia (in 2021). At the start of the 21st century, it rapidly spread through the valleys of large rivers and into previously inhabited areas. The expansion of the species is likely due to a combination of factors related to climate change. Historically,...

Václav Tomášek, Michal Bojda, Peter Drengubiak

Acta Carp. Occ. 15: 2024 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2024.007

The article presents the findings of the 40th year of mapping of large carnivores carried out in the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area and the adjacent ridges of Kysucká vrchovina in Slovakia, from February 16th to 17th 2024. Almost 100 volunteers from different regions of the Czech republic, Slovakia and Poland participated in the survey, who went through predetermined transects to document the presence of large carnivores. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the mapping revealed a significant presence of wolves, showing their activity on 70% of the transects. Lynx was also detected, albeit in lower numbers, with a notable direct sighting of...
