Acta Carp. Occ. 14: 3-43, 2023 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2023.007

Former military areas represent valuable refuges of biodiversity. Due to the activities of army units a fine-scale mosaic of various habitats has been created, forming suitable conditions for many endangered taxa. In this research we have studied the diversity of nocturnal moths in the twelve abandoned military areas in Bohemia and Moravia. Totally, the study confirmed occurrence of 558 moth species, of which 51 are classified as species of conservation interest (50 species listed in the current Red List of Invertebrates of the Czech Republic). The most significant species are Chelis maculosa, Dicallomera fascelina, Drymonia...

První nálezy bílých jedinců užovky stromové (Zamenis longissimus) v Česku

Mojmír Vlašín

Acta Carp. Occ. 14: 44-50, 2023 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2023.008

In the year 2023, a white-coloured snake was caught near town of Brumov-Bylnice in the White Carpathians (Zlín Region, Czech Republic). Detailed examination of the specimen showed that it was an adult male of Aeskulapian snake Zamenis longissimus (Laurenti, 1768), 101 cm long and weighing 179 g. This is the first record of a white coloured individual of this species in the Czech Republic. Eye colouration showed that it is not an albino but a leucistic individual. The specimen had blood taken for DNA isolation, was marked with patches on the abdominal scales and was tagged with a chip. The individual was subsequently released back at the...

Bohumír Lojkásek, Tomáš Marek, Lubomír Charbulák

Acta Carp. Occ. 14: 51-60, 2023 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2023.009

The study presents the outline review of fish species in the flooded area and the recent development of ichthyocenosis in the water reservoir. The resources for the information have been the results of our own research undertaken in the period from 1983 to 2014. The results indicate that the Šance water reservoir has been colonised, approximately during the last 30 years, by the fish community predominated by carp species and the relatively high share of predatory fishes. In the monitored period, there have been 25 fish species well documented in the area of Šance water reservoir raise. Before the reservoir fill up, they were Salmo trutta,...

První nález perleťovce červeného Argynnis pandora (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775) ve Slezsku

Tomáš Kuras, Ivo Boščík

Acta Carp. Occ. 14: 61-63, 2023 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2023.010

Argynnis pandora (Den. & Schiff.) was found in one specimen (female) at Vyšní Lhoty near Frýdek-Místek (GPS: 49°38’36”N, 18°27’47”E). This is the first record of the species from Silesia and one of the most northern records in Europe. The species is not autochthonous in the region, it was an accidental occurrence, which has been increasing in Moravia in the last decade.

Acta Carp. Occ. 14: 64-87, 2023 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2023.011

Areas used for military training have a typical character of open sites with a varied mosaic of habitats and a significant representation of early successional stages. The diversity of habitats creates favorable conditions for species-rich plant and animal communities. This paper presents the results of a repeated inventory survey of Orthoptera species at 42 abandoned military sites in the Czech Republic conducted in 2008–2009 and 2021– 2022, respectively. In total, 61 species were recorded, representing 68 % of all Orthoptera species with recent occurrence in the Czech Republic. Seventeen of the identified species are listed in the...

Jiří Procházka

Acta Carp. Occ. 14: 88-103, 2023 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2023.012

Entomological survey of the oldgrowth forest in Salajka National Nature Reserve in the Moravian-Silesian Beskids was conducted in 2019. In total, 638 individuals belonging to 19 species of ground beetles (Carabidae) were collected using pitfall traps with vinegar. Saproxylic beetles were captured using flight interception traps with salt solution. A total of 104 species belonging to 27 families were collected. Including beetles obtained by supplementary hand collecting, 19 species listed in the Czech Red list of endangered species were found. Rare saproxylic fauna was represented by Peltis grossa (Trogossitidae), Ceruchus chrysomelinus...

Helophorus (Rhopalohelophorus) asperatus Rey, 1885 v Bílých Karpatech

Helophorus (Rhopalohelophorus) asperatus Rey, 1885 in the White Carpathians

Dušan Trávníček

Acta Carp. Occ. 14: 104-107, 2023 | DOI: 10.62317/aco.2023.001

Until now, only one specimen of the water scavenger beetle Helophorus asperatus had been identified in the White Carpathians in the eastern part of the Czech Republic. Since the previously known specimen was a female, it was essential to verify the presence of this species in the area by locating a male as the male genital organ provides distinct identifying features. Male specimens were collected from a periodic pool situated in the Hutě Nature Reserve in the central part of the mountain range. The primary identification features are presented through illustrative photographs, and the discovery site is described in detail. Additionally,...
